University of Southampton ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี 1952 ตั้งอยู่ที่เมือง Southampton บริเวณทางตอนใต้ที่ติดทะเลสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรวมมีความเป็นเมืองใหญ่ในแบบที่ไม่วุ่นวายนัก มหาวิทยาลัยจัดอยู่ในกลุ่ม Russell Group เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีผลงานวิจัยชั้นเยี่ยม ซึ่งมหาวิทยาลัยมีทั้งหมด 6 วิทยาเขตกระจายไปตามจุดต่างๆในเมือง Southampton
